The story behind the image
I’m always looking for images that are typical for a place or region, ideally without entering into Kitsch which is clearly a risk.
In the Via San Martino in San Gimignano in Italy I found this laundry drying on a long rope outside the building. Yes, I hear your yell – Kitsch! – right away, but I ask you to re-consider. You see, this is common practice in Italy, especially in the confined towns and cities where you do not have a backyard or a garden. It’s an efficient, cheap, and eco-friendly (!) way of drying your laundry.
In a way, it’s a natural thing to do (if the weather permits.)
And that’s why I love this image. 🙂
