The story behind the image
Petra and I got married on 30th August 2003, i.e. exactly 20 years ago. We wanted our honeymoon trip to become one of the most memorable and exciting trips of our lives. And we did not get disappointed.
We had planned for four weeks in California, Arizona, Utah, and Nevada – but had not pre-booked any hotels except for the first few nights in San Francisco. We simply wanted to be as free and independent as possible.
I took plenty rolls of slide film and shot exactly 1,623 images during the trip. This may not sound very much today when you can easily capture 1,500 images from a wedding. Back in the days of film, this meant 40+ rolls of film, and this was A LOT. 🙂
So, we arrived in San Francisco and got over the jet lag. Then we took all the time we wanted to explore the south west as best as we could. We found places of extreme beauty, like Big Sur, Antelope Canyon, Monument Valley, or Zion National Park. Too many to be mentioned in one sentence. But we also rested for a day at the pool in Palm Springs, and went to Las Vegas on a Saturday night.
This selfie image shows us at the Grandview Viewpoint on the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. After nearly two weeks in the United States, we already looked very relaxed and happy. And, of course, a lot younger than today. 😉
20 years already! Thank you, Petra, for an amazing ride!
