The story behind the image

In 1943, the second world war was getting more intense in Kiel, hometown of the family. So my grandparents took their kids for a six week summer vacation to St. Peter Ording at the coast of the North Sea. They stayed from 15th July to 26th August, so they left in the sleepy summer destination exactly today, 80 years ago.

I like Edith’s cool look on this photo, which is also underlined by her stylish sunglasses.

At the North Sea, Edith could relax and reload her batteries to survive the next months of wartime (after all, she knew that the trip to St. Peter would end at some point in time.)
