The story behind the image
Alsace has a rich cultural history. It’s one of the mildest places in central Europe which made it the perfect region for vineyards. And with the prosperity came the people and built cozy towns and large castles.
My photo shows the Château de l’Ortenbourg from the D35 north of Scherwiler. This country road is also known as the Route du Vin (Wine Road), and you will find good restaurants everywhere that offer tasty local food with matching wines.
The castle, by the way, is just a ruin today, but it’s still worth a visit. Several hikes lead up to the ruin, enabling you to enjoy the stunning views across the vineyards of Alsace. 🙂
