The story behind the image
In 1947, my grandparents still lived in Malente-Gremsmühlen in Germany (and would continue to do so until June 1949.) My mother and her sister had a good time. The war was over and had not returned, and life had slowly returned to normal. School had not yet begun for them, and they could enjoy the summer to the fullest.
I really like this photo, probably shot by my grandfather. While it is not too difficult to capture a decent photo of kids on a swing today (with digital technology), it was more difficult with film. And it was even more difficult, a real challenge, back when cameras did not have automatic exposure functions or powerful winders, and film was expensive and slow.
Yet, the photographer managed to cope with these challenges and shot a crisp image exactly at the highest point during the swing. My mother looks into the camera , and you can see the joy in her eyes.
Well done, grandpa! 🙂
