The story behind the image
At the Costa Verde – the “Green Coast” – of Sardinia, we drove all the way down to Piscinas. The last couple of kilometers was just a gravel road along the gently curved green hills that gave this part of the west coast its name. At the end of the road we were greeted by lots of parking lots, the premium Hotel Le Dune Piscinas, and a beautiful, long beach with white sand.
Not far away from the beach, you will find a couple of historic lorries. They are some of the remains of the times when the village Ingurtosu was an active mine. The ore would be transported from Ingurtosu to Piscinas before being shipped from the tiny harbour.
Now, back in 2010 the hotel was positioned as a premium accommodation, and it’s easy to see why: total transquility in one of the most beauiful spots at the Costa Verde, plus excellent food. Sadly, the Corona crisis had hit the business hard, and the hotel has closed in 2021. At the time of writing, the building seems to undergo massive renovations, including an extension following the existing historic architecture. Given the massive investment, it is likely to become a premium accommodation again. (We wish the new management the best of luck.)
