Blue Hour, Hollywood

When you are visiting Los Angeles in California, you will have a hard time resisting the urge to (at least shortly) visit Hollywood, or rather: the area along the Hollywood Boulevard. The name alone – Hollywood – sounds magical.

And we were not different. We simply had to visit the area. But when we arrived at the “heart” of Hollywood, the Hollywood Strip, we were not too impressed. We found mirrored windows on faceless concrete buildings, countless souvenir shops offering all kinds of kitsch, and some wannabe actors dressed as Elvis, Darth Vader, Spiderman and what not.

Mann’s Chinese Theater was interesting as it offered several restaurants and stores. Its unique feature certainly is the fantastic view across the city from the upper floors. From here, I captured the busy Hollywood Boulevard with a longish exposure, probably 1/15 sec. or so, which added a bit of motion blur to the cars driving on the street several floors below us. The neon lights added countless eye catchers, and in the distance the high rises of Los Angeles downtown were clearly visible. Above all, a full moon was showing up.

I really like this shot as it shows the place as we’ve experienced it.
