The story behind the image
I guess you know by now that I’m a huge fan of the Canadian Rocky Mountains. They are truly awesome. Nature photographers will find countless beautiful locations that are worth being captured on film (or digitally today). The National Parks are full of visual miracles.
And then there are the locations that are truly jaw-dropping in a negative sense. When we approached Lake Louise, we had the stunning lake in mind, and the majestic Mount Victoria. Imagine our shock when we actually approached the lake and saw the huge Fairmont Château Lake Louise, a premium hotel directly at the shores of the lake.
Don’t get me wrong – I know that it is an economical factor in the region, and I appreciate that. Also, the architects did a good job by not creating a building that is entirely out of place. However, it does not really look like a good match either in my opinion.
Anyway, once we had been over the shock, we went up the Fairway Lookout Trail and indeed found it. Along the way I shot this photo of the hotel. 🙂 A bit of a disappointment, really.
Enough of the rant – the turquoise water of Lake Louise is a real yaw-dropper from up here.
