The story behind the image
Lisbon in Portugal is an all-year destination for tourists. Even in December you have mild weather, and you can explore the city without bumping into too many fellow tourists.
The air seems to be a be more clear than during summer, and so we walked up to the Castelo de São Jorge to enjoy the stunning views across the city center and the Tejo river.
Twelve years before, in 1988, there had been a large fire in the city that not only destroyed countless historic buildings but also affected the view significantly. Also, there was much more smog back in 1988 than it was in 2000.
