The story behind the image
We had travelled the south coast of the Algarve region in Portugal for a couple of weeks already and were now bound to slowly move up the west coast to Lisbon.
For the first two nights at the west coast we stumbled upon Praia da Cordoama, situated about 10 kilometers north of the Cabo de Sao Vicente. But we camped in the wilderness! The spot was extremely beautiful, and there were already several other campers (one might have called ‘Hippies’) who reassured us that this wouldn’t be a big issue. Yes, occasionally the police would come and ask the wild campers to leave the place, but that’s about it. We shrugged and stayed for two nights – a fantastic experience that was only possible back then. Today I see a paved road leading up to the beach, and a paved parking lot.
That first evening we had a terrific sunset, and I captured it. Here, a large freight ship had moved in front of the setting sun.
