The story behind the image
We were up early to drive 45 minutes from Jasper to Maligne Lake, one of the many must-sees in the Canadian Rocky Mountains. The sky was clear, and there were still relatively few tourists round. After a short walk from the parking lot we were stunned by the breathtaking beauty of the lake with Mount Charlton and the Queen Elizabeth Ranges as backdrop.
Just a single motor boat had left the pier already, probably taking the first tourists to Spirit Island, another iconic location in the back of the lake. The boat was breaking the calm surface of the lake and produced tiny waves.
I like the clarity of this image and the fact that the boat adds a scale for the viewer who quickly realizes how tall the mountains in the back really are.
