The story behind the image
My mother would have celebrated her 81st birthday today (born in 1942) but she died too early in 2004.
She had always been attracted to art and artworks as her family had collected a few paintings of artists living in Northern Germany. In the late 1980s and throughout the 1990s she created a number of paintings, and I inherited them after her death. Here’s one that I really appreciate: it shows a landscape in Southern France during harvest time, shortly before sunset. She had been an avid fan of France and all things French, probably because her grandmother (Eugenie) was born and raised in Schlettstadt (Selestat) in Alsace, France.
Mom, whereever you are right now – I’m thinking of you.
