The story behind the image
On this day, 81 years ago, my mother was born in Kiel, Germany.
This photo, shot by my grandfather Otto, shows tiny Inga Dorothea a few days after having left the hospital. The location is the first floor of their house in Kiel Wik that Edith and Otto had purchased in 1940 or 1941. While Inga Dorothea seemed to be not interested in the photographer at all, Edith had put on her mesmerizing smile, and Otto had accurately focused on her face.
My mother had a terrific life with highs and lows, and she enjoyed it to the fullest within the given financial and social limitations of her time.
