The story behind the image
When you are in Florence, you will visit the Cattedrale di Santa Maria del Fiore with the Campanile di Giotto tower. If not from the inside (for its long queues that are a real turn-off) then at least from the outside. You simply cannot pass this iconic beauty in the heart of the city. Not even if you have seen it before (like us.)
So, during our recent trip to Tuscany we also re-visited Florence. We used the train to get from Castelfiorentino right into the city center of Florence, a pleasant one-hour journey without any traffic jams or parking challenges – a relaxing experience.
From the train station, all the attractions are just a stone throw away, and we took our time to explore the city center. When we came to the dome, I realized that the morning sun was shining through the tiny gap between the main building and the tower.
I picked my new super wide angle zoom lens (a 11-22 mm zoom) and put it to f/22 at 1/125 sec. I placed the sun into the middle of the frame and was rewarded with a super nice image.
Lovely.
