The story behind the image
During our recent trip to Tuscany in Italy we also did a day excursion to Florence. A bit off the city center with its countless tourist attractions you will find the Mercato di Sant’Ambrogio, a historic market offering fresh ingredients as well as fashion, toys, and electronic gadgets.
In a way, this market is the ‘city variant’ of the traditional moving markets that are typical for smaller towns across the entire country. These are not only nice to look at (for tourists) but essential for supplying goods to those who cannot drive to visit far away outlet centers and supermarkets.
On the southern concrete wall of the market building in Florence I saw this empty cup of cappuccino, left by someone who probably thought that it will be cleaned up after him. Well, I am glad that nobody did, so I had an attractive image that required virtually no editing at all.
A fun shot with little meaning, yes, but I really like the composition and the bright colors. 🙂
Oh, and the market is definitely worth a visit. It’s an experience of its own. (But be early, as most merchants pack up after noon.)
