The story behind the image
Sports photography. I never tried it before my daughter Clara was born. Now she’s training athletics, and I’ve put my skills to a test. The result? I realized how difficult and exhausting sports photography can be.
Technology helps – importantly, cool auto-focus functions – but still you have to hit the sweet spot when the athlete is at the most challenging point. And you have to keep an eye on logistics, especially if you need to capture not just one athlete but – ideally – a whole team.
A couple of weeks ago I managed to get a lot of things right. Clara participated in a kids’ heptathlon with several hundreds of athletes from across Bavaria in Germany. She did well and secured rank 12 (of 48) in her age group W11. And I was happy to get a number of decent shots from her team, learning a lot (!) along the way. 🙂
