The story behind the image

It’s a routine that repeats every year: For one weekend in February all the mighty politicians and their advisors meet in Munich, Germany, to discuss the state of the world’s security in the aptly named Munich Security Conference. While the politicians talk, protests against these discussions take place outside of the ban mile, usually starting at the Marienplatz in the city center. Rarely, these protests get violent or out-of-hand. But sometimes they do, and then it’s good to have armed police to protect civilians and buildings.

I was looking for a generic shot of the armed police without any visible faces or marks, and I found this angle. A group of ten policemen had lined up, and I opted to show just their heavy protectors. The spot in the lower left corner provides plenty of copyspace for those who need it.

I do not exactly love this shot, but I like it. 🙂
