Piscinas Arbus

Once we checked in at the Agriturismo Gragonti, we drove the way down to Piscinas - the last 7 kilometers on a sandy gravel road. At the end you will be greeted by lots of parking lots, the Hotel "Le Dune", and a beautiful, long beach with white sand.

Piscinas Beach Sardinia

While there were many people, they distributed smoothly across the beach. The gentle green hills in the back gave this part of the coast its name: Costa Verde - Green Coast. While in the center of Sardinia it can be hot and dry (and hence not very green), the plants on the western coast provide a lot of color, making the drive along the coast and exceptional experience.

Lorries of the Miners in Sardinia

Not far away from the beach, you will see these lorries. They are some of the remains of the times when the close-by village Ingurtosu was an active mine.

The ore would be transported from Ingurtosu to Piscinas and stored there, before they would be shipped from the tiny harbour.

Panorama of Mining Lorries in Piscinas

Here is another shot of the rusty lorries of Piscinas, this time a panorama photo made from five shots. The original file is 18223 x 2532 pixels.

Hotel Le Dune Piscinas Sardinia

When the mining was given up, the three warehouses at the beach were turned into a luxury hotel, complete with restaurant, bar, and spa. With just 27 rooms, it can be difficult to book a room, but if you manage to get one, you can walk directly from your room to the private beach. And in the late afternoon, when all the day tourists are gone, you will experience terrific mediterranian sunsets on the patio of the restaurant while enjoying traditional Sardic food.

Costa Verde Dunes Sardinia

A group of four people walks along the spectacular sand dunes of Piscinas. These dunes can get as high as 50 meters, and they move slightly from year to year.

Crossig Rio Piscinas

When coming from the northern part of the Costa Verde (i.e. from Portu Maga) you may be required to cross the Rio Piscinas. During summer this should not be a problem as this brave driver of an older Fiat Punto shows.

Costa Verde Beach Sardinia

Let's continue with some impressions of the Costa Verde: This photo shows a couple sitting under an umbrella at one of the many remote beaches of the coast.

View from Torre di Flumentorgiu

When you drive up all the way up to the northern tip of Costa Verde, you will get to the Torre di Flumentorgiu. It provides awesome views of the surroundings: Clear blue-green water and actually very few tourists.
