Gartensee, Seeshaupt, Germany

The first day of the year 2008 was exceptionally beautiful, and we decided to take a walk at the tiny village of Seeshaupt close to Starnberger See. We intended to walk close to the lake's shoreline, but this was surprisingly difficult as there was no real walkway. By accident we found a map for hikers which pointed us towards the Ostersee area close to the village. It is a combination of several small lakes, like the Gartensee on the photo and it is absolutely gorgeous. The air was fresh and cold, a few inches of snow were still present from the previous night, the sun was shining brightly, and the views were just awesome.

So, if you intend to visit Lake Starnberg, please also consider a stop in Seeshaupt at the southern end of the lake. The village may not be worth it, but the Ostersee area surely is.

Have a good month, folks!
