Lance Blackwell, Aquamarine Adventures, Ucluelet, Vancouver Island (2002)

This is Lance Blackwell of Aquamarine Adventures, a perfect guide for your whalewatching trip to the Broken Island Group. We recommend to take the boat trip before doing a scenic flight, because Lance will tell you a lot about the whales and other animals.

Preparing for the whalewatching tour, Ucluelet, Vancouver Island (2002)

Okay, here I am, ready for the whalewatching adventure. Lance provides every participant with matching life suits that keep you warm and include the life vest. In fact, it was quite hot in there while we were still in the harbour. On the Pacific, however, it was very good to wear the suit. :-)

Whalewatching, Pacific Rim National Park, Vancouver Island (2002)

A gray whale ( Eschrichtius robustus ) breathes right before diving again. From the Zodiak, you never see the whale in total, but always "just" parts. But even this is a breathtaking experience! If you want to see a whale completely, go for a scenic flight.

The whale breathes, and one - two - ...

Another tail sighting.

Sea Lions, Pacific Rim National Park, Vancouver Island (2002)

During our whale watching tour we saw sea lions as well.
