Pioneertown California

Before entering the Joshua Tree National Park, we recommend a sidetrip on Highway 247 to Pioneertown. It's a historic town that gives you an impression of how the life of the pioneers actually was.

Joshua Tree National Park

Another Joshua Tree. Along with a desert-like surrounding you can see many stunning rock formations.

But beware of the Snakeweed (Gutierrezia sarothrae). It's got its name for a reason: snakes like to hide under these plants and may attack hikers coming too close.

Barker Dam Joshua Tree National Park

A rare sight in September: The lake above Barker Dam actually has water in it! It had rained heavily about two weeks ago, and the water pooled here.

Colorado River Needles

This is the Colorado River close to Highway 40, at the village Needles. From here, we recommend a trip towards Bullhead City and Laughlin, and then on the 68 to Kingman.

Highway 68 Laughlin

The Highway 68 offers such beautiful views right after sunset.
